Avatar 2 Confirmed

For those not in the know, Avatar is a 2009 American sci-fi movie written and directed by James Cameron. It stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez and Stephen Lang. It originally was just a rumor, but James Cameron stated if Avatar were successful, he hoped to make two sequels to the film. Avatar has made over $2.6 billion dollars, and is the highest-grossing film of all time in North America, even surpassing Titanic, which was also created by James Cameron.

So will there be an Avatar 2? Definitely. Also, from the way it sounds there may very well be an Avatar 3 to follow it up. In an interview at the 82nd Academy Awards, Cameron said "if I were to start Avatar 2 tomorrow, it would still be three years away". That isn't a bad thing though, everyone knows that there is a lot of work being put into making these movies, especially with the shear amount of digital work involved, it's quite an undertaking.

Rumors

There are some rumors and such flying all around the internet, below are some of them that could be true, or maybe not. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

  • They are going to widen the universe while exploring other moons of Polyphemus.
  • The first sequel would continue to follow the characters of Jake and Neytiri.
  • Humans would return as the antagonists of the story.
  • Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana have signed on to reprise their roles in future sequels.
  • Colonel Miles Quaritch may make a return. Stephen Lang believes his character could make a return because they have his DNA.
  • Sigourney Weaver as Dr. Grace Augustine, announced the possibility of her return.

I liked avatar, but don't think there should be a sequel. Cameron is great at action movies, but I think his stories would be much better if someone else would write them. Some of the dialogue is cheesy... Great hub though!

I said the same thing to my friends, that making a sequel could be potentially bad if it's not done right. The story was really predictable in Avatar, but that was ok. Then I said to myself if the sequels are bad, that I'll just do what I did with the Matrix, I pretend the first one is the only Matrix movie lol.

Well, all I can say is the best of luck to Cameron. Let the second Avatar be as amazing as the first and maybe Cameron will take 1, 2, and 3 for most made movies. Even if not, he has still done a great job as a movie-maker.

I'm guessing that there will be a military base on another one of the moons, and that is how they will explore it a bit. The humans that left Pandora didn't go home, they instead retreated to the military base there and are planning a new invasion with more soldiers and weapons.

"I pretend the first one is the only Matrix movie lol."

Hah, I do the same thing.

I don't know if the sequel should have yet another invasion by the humans, that seems kind of repetitive for me. Although I can't see any other way to make a sequel... maybe exploring things from the other perspective? From the humans in Earth? We only had a few lines regarding the current state of the planet. I don't know where you would take that in a film, but it would be interesting to see.

The other Matrix movies weren't bad, but they weren't the best either. I loved how the first one went, it was very surreal.

I think they have a 'base' on another moon, and that is how we're going to view another moon. They probably have large mechs, the bigger brothers of those mechanical suits they were using. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I am very excited about Avatar's sequel, but, it's pretty clear that Trudy has to return! She was a very important character (and also very hot). I watched her death in slow motion and it looks like she escaped, but it could've been a piece of falling debris. Avatar 2 is going to be a big hit, and I am REALLY excited, but James Cameron, BRING BACK TRUDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anything is possible in movies! She may not be dead, who knows!

I liked Avatar, but sequels are really tough. I hope their successful, it's not too often that you find sequels living up to the original movie.

Your spot on about the Matrix, I didn't think the sequels were that impressive !!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully Avatar will be a different story :)

I can understand bringing Quaritch back, because he was a great villain. I don't get what Sigourney Weaver meant when she hinted at Grace being part of the tree, however. It would be really cool if somehow some of the others that supposedly died had new avatars like Trudy, Grace, and Quaritch. Stephen Lang said that the RDA had Quaritch's DNA, which is necessary for cloning or creating an avatar, however he would have been dead long after they made his avatar unless it was aready built because Na'vi arrows can stopyour heartbeat in one minute.

There are good reasons to bring back certain characters that died. For Trud, her action figure was super popular for Mattel, whoproduced he Avatar toys. She sold out really quickly. Grace was a character that was very important, and people kind of figured she'd return because Sigourney Weaver is a VERY talented actress, and a character that popular and important is impossible to be eliminated in the first film. Quaritch was an excellent villain, ad it is nearly impossible to have a worse villain, especially being that he is human, and the humans in Avatar show what greed can do to you. Tsu'tey wa a excellent character, but he has no need to return.

I thought I should inform the readers that so far five cast members from Avatar have signed on for Avatar 2: Zoe Saldana (Neytiri), Sam Worthington (Jake Sully), Joel David Moore (Norm Spellman), Sigourney Weaver (Dr. Grace Augustine), and CCH Pounder (Mo'at). Stephen Lang (Quaritch) and Giovanni Ribisi (Parker Selfridge) will probably return, but they haven't officialy signed on yet.
