Munchkin Card Game + Expansions!
65What is Munchkin?
This is one of those silly fantasy-themed card games that you just didn't know would be a hit with the crowd. The first time I heard of it was at my friend's, his aunt picked it up along with a couple of expansions and several of us sat around the table and played for hours. I highly recommend this game to anyone!
Everyone begins the game as a level 1 human with no class, and while playing they can change races (elf, dwarf, etc) and each has different unique abilities. You can even change classes which also gives you different abilities. So in short, you can be a Level 5 Dwarf Warrior, or a Level 8 Elf Wizard, and so forth. The goal is to reach level 10 by slaying monsters and selling the treasure you find while playing. You can acquire different types of armor, weapons, and items that give you an edge. The game has a lot of style to it, and it's unique because it's funny. The names of evil creatures you fight have funny names, and so does the items you get. The game really is a blast, and I do highly recommend getting it. I should mention that you can backstab your friends, steal their stuff, and do ungodly things to them too!
Is it Difficult to Learn?
At first I thought it would be, but it really isn't. We were up and playing in about 15 minutes and didn't have any problems after that. The game itself is pretty rules light, and aside from that the cards tell you exactly how stuff works.
Should I Get the Expansions?
I definitely recommend getting *some* expansions when you first get it it, you'll really be glad you did. Although, expansions are not required to play, they just add additional items, races, and all of that to the game to make it even more enjoyable. The expansions themselves are pretty darn cheap, so that shouldn't be a problem to snag a couple while your buying the main deck.
If your considering getting some expansions, I recommend getting Munchkin 2: Unnatural Axe which gives you an additional 112 cards, lets you play as an Orc, and a variety of additional things. The Munchkin 3: Clerical Errors expansion gives you the ability to play as a Gnome and as well as gives you the Bard class. It also includes new funny items, such as the Stab-A-Matic and the Chainmail Bikini.
All of the Munchkin Expansions!
Below is a master list of all of the expansions for Munchkin, and it should prove useful to you if you decide to pick this game up. As I said earlier, I do recommend getting one or two expansions when you pick up the base Munchkin deck so it gives you more options while playing. Remember, the expansions are not standalone games, you need the base Munchkin deck to play!
- Munchkin 2: Unnatural Axe - You get 112 more cards, which includes more creatures, the ability to play as an Orc, and items like the Spiked Codpiece, Slug Thrower, Druid Fluid, Unnatural Axe, and more.
- Munchkin 3: Clerical Errors - You get 112 more cards, which includes creatures, and the ability to play as a Gnome, as well as a new class to play, the Bard! You'll get items such as the Chainmail Bikini, and more.
- Munchkin 4: Need for Steed - You get 112 more cards, as well as steeds and a bunch of hirelings to add to your game. I highly recommend this one! You'll get funny steeds such as the Giant Mutant Gerbil and Dragon and the Tiger, plus plenty of other cards.
- Munchkin 5: De-Ranged - You get 112 more cards, and most notably you'll get the option to play as the beloved Ranger class. They have the unique ability to rescue steeds from the discard pile to make a quick getaway. On top of that you'll get some items that are just plain cool, such as the ability to put racing stripes on your steed, you'll get items like the Canteen of Spleen, Carbonated Holy Water, and more.
- Munchkin 6: Demented Dungeons - This is a unique expansion where you can use dungeon cards in your games. These dungeons and do bizarre things, such as the Dungeon of Elvish Excess, where everyone is an Elf, for example. It gives you a lot of twists to the game and spices it up quite a bit. These cards are double-sized to make them standout from the rest. I had a lot of fun playing with these in our games!
- Munchkin 7: More Good Cards - This is a small, but powerful expansion. You'll get items such as the wishing ring, a bunch of creature enhancers to really mess with your friends, and much more.
